  abstract = {Anycast has traditionally been associated with large-scale global network services such as DNS and CDN. 
However, anycast can also benefit smaller networks spanning only a few  locations, such as two global markets. The question arises whether such small-scale anycast deployment would perform well, and whether the operator can do anything to improve the performance.  In this paper we define three performance metrics for anycast deployments, and  propose several practical BGP configuration steps an operator can take to improve the metrics.  Using these steps we show a significant improvement of anycast performance in our test deployment in Europe and the USA.},
